Zanzibar is part of Tanzania, so you don't need a separate visa. Your Tanzania e-visa covers both the mainland and Zanzibar. Most nationalities need a visa to enter. Citizens of East African Community countries (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan) can enter without one. Everyone else needs to apply.
Apply online through the official Tanzania e-visa portal at visa.immigration.go.tz. Don't use any other website. Fill in the form, upload your documents, pay the fee, and wait for approval. It usually takes 3 to 10 days. Once approved, you get a Grant Notice by email. Print it and bring it with you.

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if you're arriving from or transiting through an endemic country. This includes Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and most of sub-Saharan Africa.
If you're flying directly from Europe, North America, or the Middle East without a transit stop in an endemic country, it's not required. Some travelers carry it as a precaution anyway.
In addition to your visa, all visitors to Zanzibar must purchase mandatory travel insurance from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC). This costs $44 USD per person and is separate from any personal travel insurance you have. See our Zanzibar Mandatory Travel Insurance page for full details.
